Most of the pieces you see here started out as planks from the lumber yard. For the most part, I use traditional woodworking joinery. This involves shaping the wood and gluing it together in such a way that it stays together without the use of screws, nails, or other fasteners. These methods are time-tested and result in furniture that is stronger and will last for generations.

Constructed with mortise, tenons, and grooves. Solid oak.

Sliding Top Desk

I designed and built this based on an antique desk I stumbled upon. Instead of a drawer under the writing surface, the top of the desk slides forward, revealing storage underneath. The species of wood is sapele.

Custom Bathroom Vanity

I designed and built this to match the vanity found in the client's previous home. However, I built U-shaped drawers directly under the sinks. Most vanities have a dummy panel in that space, since the plumbing prevents the installation of a normal drawer.

Custom No-Hardware King Bed

I constructed this king-sized bed for a customer who wanted a bed that could be put together using no hardware (no bolts, screws, or the like), so that it could not squeak. I had to take special care at the place where each of the long members connnects to the rest of the bed, because this short-grain wood is quite weak. I laminated a slice of wood with the grain running in a perpendicular direction to the wood on either side of it, which gives the structure more strength than if it were made of a solid block of wood. The customer wished to keep the color of the Alder hardwood natural. It was finished with a matte protective top coat.

Executive Seven Drawer Mahogany Desk

I custom designed and built this desk out of mahogany hardwood. It features seven drawers with locks, two pull out flat surfaces for writing, and several hidden compartments (I reveal this information with the customer's permission, and at his suggestion).

Custom Walnut Stairs

I laminated, milled, routed, and sized some locally sourced black walnut to make these stair treads for a new custom staircase. Dreamcraft did the design, finish, and installation.

Handmade Tambour Keepsakes

I made these using a variety of hardwoods, including walnut, ash, alder, oak, poplar, mahogany, wenge, ziricote, and sapele. When you pull the front drawer open, the tambour door rolls back in its tracks to open the main compartment.
